Ghislain Thibault

Ghislain Thibault est professeur agrégé au Département de communication de l’Université de Montréal où il enseigne les études médiatiques et l’histoire des médias. Il a complété sa thèse de doctorat « Éthéréalisation: amorces d’une contre-histoire » en 2010 à l’Université de Montréal avant de poursuivre un stage postdoctoral en 2010-11 au Département d’histoire des sciences à l’Université Harvard. En 2011, il a obtenu un poste de professeur adjoint à l’Université Wilfrid Laurier avant de se joindre au Département de communication de l’Université de Montréal en 2015.

Ses recherches en histoire des médias et en archéologie médiatique ont fait l’objet de diverses publications, notamment dans des revues telles que Configurations, VIEW, Canadian Literature, Canadian Journal of Communication et Intermédialités. Il co-dirige actuellement avec le professeur Mark Hayward (Université York, Toronto) un projet de recherche financé par le Conseil de recherche en sciences humaines portant sur l’histoire de la mécanologie, un mouvement intellectuel canado-français qui s’est établi en marge de la cybernétique à la fin des années 1960 et autour des travaux de Jean Le Moyne et Gilbert Simondon. 

Ghislain Thibault is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the Université de Montréal. He received his PhD in 2010 from the Université de Montréal before pursuing postdoctoral work at Harvard University. Appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2011, he later joined the Université de Montréal in 2015.

His current research project explores the conceptual and historical relationships between machines and media in mid twentieth-century theories. His recent work in the cultural and material history of media and on the history of philosophy of technology has appeared in journals such as Canadian Literature and the Canadian Journal of Communication, Configurations and VIEW.
